Lavender Farms Bath and Body Products, Lavender Soaps

Picture Courtesy of William Zhang Our farming operation is a small family-owned operation in Williams, California, a rural agricultural community in Colusa County. Williams is located in the Sacramento Valley of Northern California where Interstate 5 and Hwy 20 meet. Our family farms primarily rice with about 1,000 acres planted, grown, and harvested annually.

In an effort to diversify our farming interests and to find something we could farm on a smaller scale, we decided that our local environment would be well suited to grow lavender. As a sun worshiper, we have found that lavender is very happy in our climate.

In the fall of 1998, we started a test plot of approximately 400 lavender plants divided equally between the "Grosso" and "Provence" varieties. In the summer of 2000, we expanded by planting an additional 800 plants of the same varieties plus the "Dutch Mill" variety. After the first successful U-Cut Lavender Days, in the summer of 2003, we planted another 800 plants of the “Grosso” variety. If you were wondering why the majority of our lavender plants are of the “Grosso” variety, we have found that this variety has a much higher oil content, a more favorable aroma, and once dried holds a truer purple color. The “Grosso” variety has proven to meet all of our needs since we steam distill our lavender for the essential oil and floral water needed to make our handmade, natural Lavender “Bath and Body” Products.

Since beginning our lavender adventure, we have grown from a small, locally known business to a business that is recognized all over the United States for our true and pure lavender products. We have been featured in Sacramento Magazine, Ag-Ventures, The Rancher Magazine, as well as the Chico Enterprise-Record, the Central Sacramento Valley Resource Conservation & Development Newsletter, and in other various local news articles.

Ornbaun-Gibson Ranch (See Our Historic Ranch) is a peaceful, old ranch consisting of about 50 acres with a 5,600 square foot Victorian home, some beautiful old barns, and several outbuildings. We are currently in the process of renovating the home which is 130 years old.
